Cycle for SMARTER - Part 1


20Jun10, Sunday 06:00, more than 300 cyclist assembled at the HSBC KB. They cycled all the way from Kuala Belait district to the Brunei-Muara district to raise funds for the Society for the Management of Autism Related Issues in Training, Education and Resources' (Smarter) to sustain its operations as well as create awareness of autism amongst the public.

The challenge was split into two categories - Category A: 108-km challenge for adult cyclists, and, Category B: an eight-km community challenge which was open to all cyclists, starting off at HSBC (Jerudong).

There was also an eight-kilometre community challenge for children below six years, which took the young participants from HSBC Jerudong to the SMARTER Centre in Sengkurong.

The event, named 'Cycle for Smarter' was a collaborative effort between Smarter and HSBC Brunei which saw more than 400 participants in both categories of the event.


Registration fees for the 108 kilometre cycling challenge and the eight kilometre community challenge were $20 and $10 respectively.

Leading the first category was Minister of Industry and Primary Resources Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Hj Yahya Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Hj Bakar as the group of cyclists took off from Smarter branch in Kuala Belait.
